The Wilmington Chicken

A little wit, humor, and a bit of sarcasm thrown in for good measure.

Commentary about baseball from the chicken.

CRAZY EIGHTS. PHILS SCORE NINE RUNS IN WILD INNING.

Apparently, you don’t need the long ball to score nine runs in an inning. Walks, singles and station-by-station on the bases will get it done. Are we still talking about the Phillies?

It’s been a crazy month for the Phils. After three straight losses to start the month of June the Phillies have recovered and sport a 12-7 record. There have been close games and blow-outs.

The pitching continues to be the strong hand. And the offense continues to be inconsistent.

The Phillies have been hyping their minor league pitching prospects, so maybe a deal is in the works. This team needs a power righthanded bat. Someone who can spell Raul Ibanez or Dom Brown, two lefties who struggle with southpaws. All the talk is about Josh Willingham, who can play both right and left field. If the Oakland A’s, who come to Philadelphia this weekend, decide to move Willingham they’ll want young pitchers.

The righthanded, power bat. It’s the missing piece of this playoff-bound team.
